Deerstalker Soundtrack Release!
The ancient and ominous sound of the Deerstalker is now available to hear!
The Deerstalker was based on the folktale of Black Shuck, a monstrous dog that roams the coast of East Anglia. Director Rio Swatton targets folk lore that is grounded and native to the location whilst bringing together fear characteristics of several different animals for the Deerstalker.
Inspiration for the score naturally followed the tropes taken from the classic horror film Alien (1979) leaning heavily into crafting the synthesized atmosphere whilst keeping the monster, and melodic themes, hidden.
The viewer only sees the threat that Dean sees, feeding into the imagination, we get fragments of themes appearing out of the tension beds that feel distant or close depending on the assumed positioning of the Deerstalker.
As Dean descends deeper into the wilderness the atmosphere shifts, the surrounding environment seems to hold its breath becoming more unsettled as we progress into the copse.
This music is minimalistic and the undefined ambience is organic in nature, growing darker over the course of the story, turning from an uncomfortable unease to sheer panic.
