The Brief

A mostly linear approach to audio implementation, creating a cozy sound world in the style of Edwardian Britain.

Emotional regulation, pacing and immersion were the core driving factors behind the score. Relaxed atmosphere throughout but maintain excitement and interest without becoming intense at any point.

Create authentic mining worlds based upon differing eras; Victorian, Saxon, Viking, and Roman.

Structuring

Initial testing was focused on developing different sound palettes in order to hone down the compatibility with the gameplay. This enabled us to work with the developers to create a strong sense of identity from the outset.

Many of the tracks provided were written in a linear format due to not requiring intense looping based upon player choices. As such the cues written were on average 3-5 minutes in length with frequent phrase ends should transitioning be required.

Vertical layering and the performance of stem files allowed for the maximisation of usage for each theme.

Middleware

For this project we worked in FMOD. The developer wanted full control of implementation so we were able to focus purely on creating more great music, and invest the allocated budget into recording with some of the best musicians in the world.

The Budget

This project was well invested by the developers in the five figure mark. This included the writing and production of over two hours of audio assets, a number of solo recording sessions, and a full 32 piece orchestral recording session.

In all our discussions we work with our clients to identify priorities and how best to maximise their budgets. This ensures we get the best assets possible for the game.
