This solo for Tenor Horn in Eb and Piano accompaniment is a reflection on the light that shines through trees. Komorebi is literally translated to “sunlight leaking through trees” and describes the beauty and wonder of rays of light dappling through overhead leaves. The theme heard throughout in this work mimics the fleeting and uneven nature of this movement, always gentle, but with varying intensities. The underlying aleatoric piano rhythmical passages also enforces that no two performances, like in nature, will ever be identical.
