A Gentle Soul is a short work featuring a Flugel Horn soloist and brass band. The melody is rich and tonal in nature with the middle of the band providing a warm and graceful harmonic bed for the soloist to sing out over. In order to maintain the gentle theme the accompaniment must move between notes as smoothly as possible and reign in the louder dynamics to allow the soloist the freedom to play over the thicker textures.
